Class Gets Re-Called to Help Flood Victims

PakTrust Chairman requested the First class which graduated a month earlier be recalled to PakTrust Jhelum Training centre to become part of makeshift factory to manufacture women’s shalwaar kameez suits for the flood victims. the response was overwhelming, 20 of the 28 students reported back with huge enthusiasm to play their part in humantrain relief. This part of Pakistan was uneffected by the floods.

Shazaad Faisal, Country Director addressing the girls on return said “Dear past students, the time has come to use your skills to help our fellow country citizens who happen to find themselves in fate lot worse then yourselves. The bulk of the flood effectee’s lost all their worldly possessions when the floods arrived and many of our sisters and daughters don’t have clothes other then the ones they were wearing at the times they had to desert their homes. Whilst we can’t help everyone we can do our bit and manufacture as many dresses as we can, so at least we can sleep at night in the knowledge that we have done our bit to help.”

Asif Ramzan, mentioned this is a fantastic project that has so many benefits to everyone. Remember, our past students themselves are from a very poor backgrounds, they have very little to live on. Our intention is to pay these girls for the effort they expend on the project, this will be less than the going commercial rates but remember they are still training. We are hardening them and increasing their skill so they become in even better position to make an earning after this project. Ultimately, we would have manufactured the suit at a fraction of the cost that it can be purchased in retail market as we are buying cloth in bulk. We are operating environmentally friendly, the areas we operate in have limited power supply, so all our machines are hand machines. The average cost of suit is expected to be just under £5 and we aim to manufacture between 1000-1500 units in one month.

Miss Neelam, Project Coordinator who is managing this project reported that we have manufactured 156 suits in just 4 days. This is fantastic progress. At the end of 4th day ( 2 day’s before Eid in Pakistan) Faisal Shazaad was on hand with Taykdaar Munir to pay for the effort expended so far. It was great to see the achievements the girls had made and even better to see the smiles on their face when they were paid. Everyone is a winner in this project.

PakTrust are working with few partners in the effected region and soon hope to agree how the manufactured suits will be distributed.
